OVERVIEW

MoTeC's M1 GP Marine Package is a versatile and adaptable platform for the operation of port-injected marine engines. These can be inboard or outboard. This single product can be configured over a huge range of complexities, from controlling a simple engine to a multi-throttle, quad cam boosted engine with two injectors per cylinder and many other features. Configurable engine synchronisation modes accommodate most modern engine triggering systems.

Included are numerous ancillary features, such as boost limit, drive trim control, trim tab control, gearbox control, knock control and launch control. It also caters for many systems found on marine vessels that may be useful in a racing context.

This Package is available across MoTeC's range of M1 port injection ECUs (M130M, M150M, M170M and M190M). It seamlessly integrates with other MoTeC products and provides pre-defined CAN messaging for all current Display/Enclosed Loggers, Power Distribution Modules and other devices including E888, VCS, GPS, ADR, BR2, SLM and Mercury OE Systems. Example wiring pinouts are provided for basic operation using M130M and M150M ECU variants.

ECU VARIANTS

The Package is available for use with MoTeC's M130M, M150M, M170M and M190M ECUs. A pinout example for the M130M and M150M follows.

VEHICLE COMPATIBILITY

This product also includes CAN messaging for OE integration of certain Mercury engines with their corresponding dashes and throttle types. This enables OE vehicle systems such as crank request, gear shift, throttle lever position and dash information.

Under the Mercury Group there are three parameters that are required to be set in order to ensure the correct CAN messaging is sent. These are called Engine Type, Dash Type and Throttle Type, supported Engines, Dashes and Throttle types are listed below.

MARINE SPECIFIC FEATURES

The GP Marine Package is based on MoTeC’s GPR Package with the addition of the following Marine specific features:

  • Drive Trim Control.
  • Starboard and Port Trim Tab Control.

    • Dash Warnings supported and enabled through M1 Warning Module.
    • Mercury OE DTS Systems via CAN: Throttle Lever, Crank Request, Gear Position Request, Drive Trim Up and Down Request.

    • Multi Engine Synchronisation.
  • Jet Powered Boat features including: Intake, Trim, Nozzle and Stator Pressure sensors and Reverse Bucket actuation.
  • Vehicle Speed measured through using Pitot Tube or Paddle Wheel.
  • Moving Prop Alert warning light output.
  • Propeller Speed Sensor.
  • Reduced ECU Transmit Mode for Integration with vessels that have a 250kbps CAN bus speed.

FEATURES

  • Operates Port Injected engine from 1 to 12 Cylinders (M150M or M190M) or 1 to 8 Cylinders (M130M or M170M).
  • Configurable Engine Synchronisation modes.
  • Configurable top dead centre for each cylinder allows for odd-fire engines.
  • Control of Port Injector fuel system.
  • Configurable Ignition Output Pin for each cylinder allows for coil-on-plug or wasted spark and distributor systems.
  • Sensor Calibrations available for many common automotive sensors.
  • Configurable on-board knock for each cylinder with up to 4 assignable knock sensors (Hardware dependent) and selectable centre frequencies.
  • Configurable camshaft control from 1 to 4 cams, plus 1 switched camshaft.
  • Dual Bank Lambda control is supported requires optional LTC with Bosch LSU4.9 sensor.
  • Physical settings for engine displacement, fuel density + molar mass, stoichiometric ratio and injector characteristics allow for simplified engine start-up prior to tuning.
  • Easy and fast engine tuning using engine efficiency map.
  • Engine load modelling based on inlet manifold pressure and inlet manifold temperature. Alternatively, allows for throttle based load.
  • Control of 2 port injectors (peak & hold or saturated) per cylinder ('high/low' configuration) with tunable balance table.
  • Engine Charge Temperature calculation, allows for correction of Inlet Air Temperature.
  • Engine speed limiting with ignition cut and/or fuel cut with individual decay rates for smooth power reduction through Engine Speed Limit Decay table.
  • Transient fuelling compensation using physical modelling of fuel film.
  • Nitrous System with two activation stages and additional fuel pumps, bottle heater control and pressure sensor.
  • Test settings for most outputs, including injection and ignition outputs for easier setup.
  • Assisted engine start with dedicated fuel volume and idle compensations during crank and post start.
  • Configurable turbocharger boost control (using a normal or inverted solenoid output).
  • Coolant temperature compensations for engine speed limit, ignition timing, fuel mixture, boost limit.
